Q. Do you sell white rubber flooring?

A. We have scoured the world's rubber flooring manufacturers to find a white rubber flooring, and the honest answer is that nobody produces a pure white flooring to our standards. Many manufacturers claim to sell white rubber flooring, but it is always a 'dirty' white colour (like chewing gum), and so we have opted not to stock 'white' rubber flooring. We do stock very pale grey and beige colours.

Q. Is your flooring suitable for use with underfloor heating?

A. Our products are suitable for use with under floor heating and all of our flooring products are fully compliant with DIN 52612 (underfloor heating suitable) However, we do not recommend the use of under tile heaters as they get too hot. We would recommend using an under laminate heater in conjunction with a smoothing compound that is a minimum of 6mm thick. The maximum allowed surface temperature is 27°C

Q. What is your flooring made from?

A. Our products are made from a combination of SBR (synthetic rubber) and NR (natural rubber). Our flooring is halogen free and contains neither chlorine or phthalates. Most of the content of the material is natural fillers such as kaolin and chalk. Our flooring contains no heavy metals (such as lead or cadmium). Our rubber flooring is environmentally friendly in both its manufacture and recycleability.

Q. Can I fit the flooring myself? If so, how do I fit it?

A. Our flooring products can be fitted by anybody who is reasonably competent at DIY. There are a few tools that are needed (such as a V-notched trowel for the adhesive), but your local retailer can supply these. If you require the flooring to be fitted, please contact us, and we can put you in touch with a local retailer who will supply and fit the flooring. Plywood must be fitted over floorboards to ensure a perfectly smooth finish. Nail this down with ring-shank nails and then fill the holes. Our flooring is designed as a permanent floor covering and need to be stuck down over the entire surface.

Q. Which is better - sheet or tile flooring?

A. The choice of sheet or tile flooring depends on a number of factors, and each format has its pros and cons. Some colours are only manufactured in tiles and others only in sheet. Sheet flooring products are generally better suited to areas where joins are to be kept to a minimum. Tile products, because of their nature, result in more joins in the flooring. However, particularly with the patterned tiles, this may not affect the overall finish as the eye is drawn away from the joins by the pattern in the flooring. In smaller areas, wastage may also influence the choice. Tile flooring tends to create less wastage because the area in which the flooring is installed only has to be a multiple of one tile, whereas with sheet flooring the amount required has to be a multiple of the width of the roll.

Q. Can rubber flooring be used on stairs?

A. Rubber Flooring is ideal for use on stairs because of its non-slip nature. We do recommend the use of a stair-nosing on the front edge of each step as the rubber cannot be bent over the front edge like carpet. We can supply a PVC stairnosing (see accessories section) which can be used with our flooring. If you require metal or alternative stairnosings, please contact us.

Q. Which adhesive should I choose?

A. For domestic installation onto either plywood or a cement based smoothing compound our acrylic adhesive is recommended. In areas where there is likely to be water directly onto the surface of the flooring (such as a wet-room, or utility room that will be hosed down), or where the subfloor is non-porous (such as metal) we recommend our two-part polyurethane adhesive.

Q. How do I look after my new floor once it is installed?

A. We strongly recommend cleaning the floor 72 hours after installation (to allow the adhesive to dry) with our Prepare stripper. Dilute this down 5:1 with water and apply to the surface of the flooring with a mop. Leave this for five minutes (but do not allow it to dry out) and then mop off with clean water. Make sure that all traces of stripper have been removed by mopping the floor two or three times with clean water, and then let the floor dry fully. This should have got the floor clean and free from any contaminants form the manufacturing process. Then you can apply one thin coat of Prolong floor polish (in either matt or gloss) and let that dry, and then a second coat of Prolong polish at right-angles to the first and then let that dry fully. The floor can then be cleaned on a regular basis with our Prolong floor maintainer. You can purchase all of the above chemicals along with a professional polish applicator in our Complete Floor Care Kit
